Safety Insights testimonial, Blackpool Council - Lancashire

Blackpool Council is using connected vehicle data from RoadTrace to innovate and improve road safety. The data, obtained from connected vehicles, provides insights into the actual impact on drivers in real-world situations. By analyzing millions of raw data points on the road network, the data helps identify areas with repeated harsh braking, offering valuable information to highways safety managers.

When combined with full-HD, panoramic imagery, the connected vehicle data tells a unique story about each road network, enabling safety maintenance and identifying new areas for investigation. Blackpool Council, known for its innovative approach to road maintenance, has integrated connected vehicle insights into its road safety projects and processes since the beginning of 2023.

Neil McArdle, a Senior Highways Asset Management Officer at Blackpool Council, explains that the data has already been beneficial in identifying previously unknown problem areas. For instance, it discovered a school rat run that was not previously known, prompting further inspection using the integrated Roadtrace/ Gaist imagery. The data also helps measure the impact of road safety initiatives, allowing the council to test the effects of new signage or road layouts and improve road safety across Blackpool's network.

Blackpool Council's commitment to innovation is evident in its use of the connected vehicle data provided by AISIN.
