Webinar - How data can transform Road management Efficiency (ITS paper)

Discover groundbreaking insights from a new UK study, presented at the ITS World Congress, revealing how predictive data has tripled the ability to anticipate traffic collisions before they occur. By analyzing detailed behavioral data, this innovative approach is revolutionizing road safety and efficiency.

the use of predictive data has improved the efficiency of anticipating collisions BEFORE they happen, by a factor of 3, based on detailed behavioural and contextual data.

A large UK study compared 2 datasets : Retrospective use of past collision data (5 years) vs. Predictive use of connected vehicle data (100.000 km in 60 counties, 134 million hours of driving). This study has shown that the use of predictive data has improved the efficiency of anticipating collisions BEFORE they happen, by a factor of 3, based on detailed behavioural and contextual data. These data open the door to a new approach : Road Management 4.0, where highway decision makers can now use data to base informed decisions on. It allows to prioritise Road safety, Infrastructure and maintenance work and focus resources on the key risk areas.

The study, authored by Thierry Castermans, is presented by Joffroy Pirlot, Expert Product Owner at Aisin. Accompanying the presentation is expert commentary from Jon Munslow, a highways industry specialist and former president of the UK’s Local Government Technical Advisors Group. They explore the study’s findings and the significant benefits for both the highways industry and road users, highlighting the transformative impact of predictive technology on road safety.
