Stop reacting, start preventing: Road safety experts and families demand Vision Zero action

“We should not have to wait for a death for action to be taken, when there is technology that can identify something that is likely to cause an issue for other drivers.”

Road safety experts and bereaved families have expressed their support for RoadTrace - an innovative Vision Zero tool that proactively identifies and addresses high-risk areas before crashes happen.

To achieve the UK’s Vision Zero goal - eliminating road deaths and serious injuries by 2040 - authorities need to take urgent, proactive steps.

The RoadTrace Vision Zero tool uses harsh-braking data from connected vehicles to pinpoint high-risk areas, allowing potential hazards to be addressed early. It’s three times more effective at identifying potential collision sites than traditional, reactive methods that rely on casualty data alone.

Chris Taylor,  whose 18-year-old daughter, Rebecca, was tragically killed in a road crash on the A508 in Northampton in 2008, understands the devastating consequences of reactive approaches.

He said: “We should not have to wait for a death for action to be taken, when there is technology that can identify something that is likely to cause an issue for other drivers.”

Let’s move beyond outdated approaches and take meaningful action to save lives.
